For the first time employees will have the right to request time for study or training after legal changes come into effect today.

Time to Train will give workers in businesses which employ more than 250 people the legal right to request time off to take up relevant training.

Company cars - advisory fuel rates from 1 December 2009

These rates apply to all journeys on or after 1 December 2009 until further notice.

From the change on 1 December 2009, the revised rates will take effect from the specified date rather than one month later, allowing them to reflect fuel prices more quickly. For one month from the date of change, employers may use either the previous or new current rates, as they choose. Employers may therefore make or require supplementary payments if they so wish, but are under no obligation to do either.

Moving from paper to online VAT Returns

HM Revenue & Customs is phasing out paper VAT Returns. From April 2010 you may have to submit your VAT Returns online and pay any VAT due electronically.  To find out if your business is affected and what you need to do check: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/vat-online/moving.htm

Changes to the VAT Flat Rate Percentages

Changes to PAYE Online Filing

The 2009/10 Employer Annual Return, due by 19 May 2010, must now be filed online, and starter and leaver forms filed online from 6 April 2011.
